At Summerhill’s Little Treasures we pride ourselves in offering high quality care and education for children, who are at the heart of everything we do. We actively work with our families and the local community to ensure we all strive for the best in every child.  Childcare is provided through a multi-sensory approach by a friendly, qualified, experienced team, in a safe, stimulating and happy environment.

We provide children with a balanced range of age appropriate activities and experiences that will enable them to reach their maximum potential.  We have four rooms varying in developmental ages and each child is allocated a key worker to help build strong relationships and good communication with parents/carers. We treat each child and adult as individuals and respect their views, culture and religious beliefs.

Our setting has multiple outdoor play spaces including two forest areas and a large grass field. Indoors the children have access to a sensory room.

We provide care from 7.30am until 18.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Orange Room

Orange room is for 0-2-year old babies and children. The room is designed to offer none mobile spaces and large play/curriculum themed areas. This room is staffed on a 1:3 ratio.

Staff plan daily activities and experiences to stimulate the children. Most of these activities are sensory based. Staff encourage adult and child interaction and we place a high focus on developing language as a key part of daily activities. Young children are active learners. From birth they have a need to make sense of their world, they long to explore, examine and understand it and the staff offer opportunities to explore new textures, colours, objects and sounds.

Staff work alongside parent/carer requests to ensure that individual routines are consistent between home and the setting and the daily routines include regular feeding/snack times and sleep time.

ELT – Green room is a sessional room based around early learning funding for two-year olds. Sessions are held in the morning however funding can be flexible across the week, but children would be based in Purple room. This room is staffed on a 1:4 ratio.

Daily activities are planned for using knowledge of the gaps in children’s development and their interests. Staff use Development Matters to look at age related objectives to meet the children’s needs. Rooms have a range of curriculum areas including creative, construction, reading, role play, exploratory areas and sand/water play.

Through a wide range of play activities, we encourage children to explore their environment. Children experience sessions in the sensory room and outdoor forest area as part of their learning and staff collect observations and photos of the children’s experiences.

Parents/carers have access to ‘Parent Zone’ where daily feedback is provided for routines, mealtimes, toileting and general observations.

Purple room offers full time and sessional places for 2-3-year old children. This room is staffed on a 1:4 ratio.

Children have access to indoor and outdoor facilities throughout the day. Staff use a range of resources to provide interesting opportunities for the children linked to the Development Matters objectives and linked to the themed topics.

We believe it is important to extend the children’s creativity, imagination and excitement of the natural world around them so regular visits to the forest areas are incorporated into the timetable. Encouraging them to explore real and imaginary worlds.

Forming positive social relationships are also an important skill therefore daily snack/mealtimes are used to develop these relationships and independence.

Yellow room is a pre-school room for 3-5-year old children. This room is staffed on a 1:8 ratio. The room is also used to provide wrap around care for older children including breakfast and after school provision.

Breakfast club - children are offered a choice of breakfast cereal, toast, yoghurt and fruit along with healthy drinks. Children are encouraged to self-serve the food. Varied activities are available for the children to explore before school starts.

After school provision – children are provided with a light snack after a busy school day. Children can participate in games, crafts and ICT experiences.
